Addon Analyzer too many apps

Addon Analyzer too many apps

Overview

When generating app reports, some Forge-based apps continue to appear even after uninstallation. This occurs because Atlassian does not completely remove installation data for some add-ons.

Issue Description

  • Observed Behavior:
Uninstalled apps leave behind artifacts, such as residual provisioned users, which still appear in reports.

  • Reason:
Atlassian retains add-on provisioned users even after the corresponding app is removed. These users are created during the installation process to preserve historical data and remain detectable by system analyzers.

Technical Details

  • Retention of Provisioned Users:

    • Created during add-on installation to track changes or modifications.

    • Persist in the system after uninstallation to maintain historical content information.

  • Impact:

    • They do not consume a license.

    • They are non-functional and cannot be used to log in or interact with the system.

    • Their presence may cause confusion in reports listing all apps or app-related data.

Atlassian’s Response & Future Enhancements

Atlassian Cloud Support has confirmed that this behavior is expected under current system limitations. A feature request (JRACLOUD-69084) has been logged to allow administrators to delete these residual add-on users. Although there is no immediate fix, administrators are encouraged to monitor and vote on the feature request for future updates.

Recommendations

  • Understanding the Impact:
The appearance of these residual artifacts does not indicate that the uninstalled app is active or adversely affecting system performance.

  • Monitoring Updates:
Keep an eye on the feature request status for any enhancements that allow the removal of these residual users.

Conclusion

Residual artifacts from uninstalled Forge apps are a known limitation in Atlassian Cloud. While they remain visible in reports, they do not impact functionality or licensing. Future enhancements may provide a mechanism to clean up these residual users.
