Quick Start Guide

Installation

The installation is very simple! Just open the Atlassian Marketplace and click Get It Now. The app installation will start.

Once installed, you will find Doctor Pro for Jira in the App menu located on the top bar of your Jira instance.

  • Access to Doctor Pro for Jira is managed through System -> Global Permissions.

To ensure Doctor for Jira can properly access and assess objects within Jira projects, security schemes, and permissions, it is essential to assign the Project Role:
atlassian-addons-project-access.

This role allows Doctor for Jira to interact with project-related objects while maintaining security and compliance with Atlassian best practices. Without this role, the app may not have sufficient permissions to retrieve or analyze project data effectively.

For Jira Data Center users, after installation, the Doctor Pro menu will appear in the top bar. This menu is visible only to the groups assigned Doctor Pro for Jira Access permission. By default, all groups with Jira System Administrators permission will be automatically copied to this access permission, but you can easily manage this in the System -> Global Permissions section.

When you first click Apps -> Doctor Pro for Jira, the dashboard will appear. Important: After a fresh installation, no report data will be available immediately. The app needs time to collect and analyze data from your Jira instance.

Docboard

After installation or whenever significant changes occur in your Jira instance, it’s important to trigger a fresh report. This ensures that you get the most up-to-date analysis reflecting the current state of your system.

Below, you can find a step-by-step cleanup process for your Jira instance, leading to the ultimate "ALL GREEN" configuration. This ensures optimal performance, compliance, and maintainability by systematically addressing configuration issues and streamlining your instance.

PHASE 1: Assessment & Discovery – Identify outdated, unused, or misconfigured elements in your Jira instance, including projects, workflows, custom fields, and permissions. Generate an in-depth report to understand key areas requiring attention.

Phase 2 Essential Cleanup – Remove inactive users, redundant custom fields, obsolete workflows, and unused issue types. Standardize configurations to improve efficiency while maintaining necessary structures.

Phase 3 Optimization & Compliance – Fine-tune security schemes, permissions, and automation rules. Ensure best practices are followed for scalability, governance, and maintainability, leading to a fully optimized "ALL GREEN" Jira instance.

 

 

  • Report Generation: This runs in the background and may take some time, depending on the size of your Jira instance and resource limitations on Atlassian's side. You can trigger this manually from the Dashboard.

  • Downloading Reports: Once generated, you can download a comprehensive PDF report from the dashboard, summarizing all insights.

Each report can also be refreshed individually, and PDFs of individual reports can be downloaded directly from the report page.
